Congratulations are in order for William Petroff, a recent graduate of our Web Developer Program. William was hired as a Jr. Web Developer at Two Fish Creative, a full-service creative agency in West Palm Beach, Florida.

Two Fish’s web developer team is versed in over 15 coding languages and platforms. They provide digital solutions for their clients by building SAAS platforms, Web-Apps, Mobile applications and more.

The team was looking for a developer that understood databases and could grasp a variety of languages. They called Palm Beach Code School (as local firms often do) to see if we knew anyone. We thought that Petroff, would be a great match for the job, so we set him up with an interview.

Petroff recently completed The Web Developer program at Palm Beach Code School. The Web Developer Program is our flagship program designed to prepare graduates for entry level work as junior Web Developers. The curriculum will encompass web platforms, programming, and web applications including (HTML, CSS, Javascript, jQuery, Bootstrap, PHP, MySQL).

A typical 16 week course focuses on web design principles and concepts, programming, website creation and web applications. Students can expect a section quiz approximately two to three times throughout the course. The class uses hands-on individual or group exercises and project based approach to learning. Students build a website as their final capstone project utilizing all skills learned throughout the course.

We are so pleased that William was able to use the skills he learned at Palm Beach Code School to get a new job, and we wish him a long and successful career as a Web Developer.

The next Web Developer Program starts on December 13 and classes meet on Tuesday and Thursday evenings from 6:30 – 10 pm for 16 weeks. If you’re interested, call 561-855-6575 or email info@palmbeachcodeschool.com today.

Part of the mission at UYI is to love, equip and empower inner-city youth which is important to Katherine who is a STEAM advocate passionate about giving back to the community.

“I have been very fortunate to have had an amazing tech journey thus far. I feel it is important to share my journey and to inspire girls and minority children to be curious about technology and that they too can learn to code, design and build. These kids had absolutely no experience or exposure to coding, now they can build a website, a game and wire a micro controller. After 4 weeks working with these kids, I am amazed at their level of determination. It has been very rewarding to see these kids progress throughout the summer and see their level of interest rise. They’ve learned that these skills are critical for the future and I hope to empower them with a new skill set that may drive them further in life. ”

Students in the Thursday morning class learned Inkscape and those in the afternoon class learned HTML, CSS, and Javascript. The students interested in hardware and software worked on Scratch, and Makey Makey while the older kids worked with Arduino learning the fundamentals of electrical engineering.

Students were also able to display their designs, websites and projects. Over all, this has been a rewarding experience for everyone involved, and Palm Beach Code School hopes to do more community collaborations like this in the future.

HTML:

(HyperText Markup Language) is the standard markup language used to create web pages as well as to create user interfaces for mobile and web applications. Along with CSS, and JavaScript, HTML is a cornerstone technology used to create web pages. HTML describes the structure of a website semantically and, before the advent of Cascading Style Sheets (CSS), included cues for the presentation or appearance of the document (web page), making it a markup language, rather than a programming language.

JavaScript:

(not to be confused with the programming language called “Java”) is a high-level, dynamic, untyped, and interpreted programming language. Alongside HTML and CSS, it is one of the three core technologies of World Wide Web content production; the majority of websites employ it and it is supported by all modern Web browsers without plug-ins.

CSS:

(Cascading Sheet Styles) is a style sheet language used for describing the presentation of a document written in a markup language. It is most often used to set the visual style of web pages. Along with HTML and JavaScript, CSS is a cornerstone technology used by most websites to create visually engaging webpages, user interfaces for web applications, and user interfaces for many mobile applications.

Markup Language:

is a system for annotating a document in a way that is syntactically distinguishable from the text. The idea and terminology evolved from the “marking up” of paper manuscripts, i.e., the revision instructions by editors, traditionally written with a blue pencil on authors’ manuscripts.

Programming Language:

a formal constructed language designed to communicate instructions to a machine, particularly a computer. Programming languages can be used to create programs to control the behavior of a machine or to express algorithms.

WordPress:

is a free and open-source content management system (CMS) based on PHP and MySQL. WordPress is installed on a web server, which either is part of an Internet hosting service or is a network host itself; the first case may be on a service like WordPress.com, for example, and the second case is a computer running the software package WordPress.org.

PHP:

is a server-side scripting language designed for web development but also used as a general-purpose programming language.

MySQL:

an open-source relational database management system (RDBMS). In July 2013, it was the world’s second most[a] widely used RDBMS, and the most widely used open-source client–server model RDBMS.

JQuery:

is a cross-platform JavaScript library designed to simplify the client-side scripting of HTML.[2] jQuery is the most popular JavaScript library in use today, with installation on 65% of the top 10 million highest-trafficked sites on the Web.

There is an app for just about everything these days. With mobile apps you can plan a trip, find a restaurant, pay your bills, make your grocery list and the list goes on. Do you have an idea for an app?

If you have a great idea for an app, what is the next step? Well, you could hire a developer, but this could run you $10-50K or more. Or you could learn to develop the app yourself. Mobile App Development is a hot field these days. The average annual salary for employed app developers in 2011 was nearly $90K, according to one survey.

A popular app can be lucrative. Top grossing consumer apps for iPhone and Android make thousands of dollars per day. Plus, companies are looking for people qualified to build apps. By 2016, the total revenue from mobile apps for consumers is expected to top $50 billion, according to some estimates.

Taking a specialized course geared toward mobile app development will teach you everything you need to know about building your app. Getting certified in different aspects of development will only make your case stronger to employers looking to hire.

Palm Beach Code School, located in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida, offers an iOS Mobile Program that will teach you to build apps using Swift and Objective C. The best way to prove you can build something great is to actually build something great. In our iOS Mobile Developer program, you will have a completed app at the end of the course that you can use to show potential employers or begin to market to the public.

Our program lasts 16 weeks and meets 2 evenings a week from 6:30pm-10:00pm. To learn more about our programs call 561-855-6575 or email info@palmbeachcodeschool.com.
